An outstanding sample and use case for ...applets

Applets are almost forgotten now (at the JavaONE there was a first comeback) but there are still some killer apps, which can be hardly implemented with DHTML (AJAX) or other browser based technologies. The screen capturing software http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/ is free and applet-based. The benefit - you do not have to install software on your machine to capture the screen (not necessarily a browser-window). Currently only .mov exports are supported. To try it out, just click the "create" button on the website. It's amazing - and well done.

Comments:

I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry.. I mean your right, the process creating a screencast is well done, but the the framework is probably lower then 10 per second - no wonder, why people think java is slow!

Michael,

as you probably noticed, the software is beta. If the frame rate is not good enough for you needs, please let the author of the software know. It shouldn't be a huge problem to increase the rate.
In my opinion the idea of having a web-based screen capture is really great. As you probably know, the frame rate is not directly related to the performance of java :-),

regards,

adam

GREAT find....i tried it and it works great....I think the authors actually did mention about the frame rate, that they are working to increase it...
