Cool Applet - Starts In Less Than 1 Second (with JDK 1.6u11)

In my case with running GF, Netbeans, Derby and Oracle DB, wordle (a cloud tag engine) starts immediately, in less than 1 second...

Comments:

The first time I loaded it, it took about 6 seconds. It took a couple seconds before I saw the grey background where the applet would load. Then I looked at the java logo and animation for a few seconds, then the applet started up.

When I browsed away and came back, the applet started instantly.

I sometimes suspect that Flash sometimes takes a few seconds to cold start, but it is not noticable because it doesn't set a background colour where it will render, and doesn't show Adobe branding while starting the Flash VM. You don't even know there is flash content on the page until it is in your face.

Ryan,

in my case Netbeans + Eclipse were opened - so the JVM was already warm.

thanks for your comment!,

Very nice, it's really fast.

One of the biggest disavantage of Applets was the load time. Now, it's time to resurrect the Java Applets!
