Danzig Band and City, Netbeans 6.5 rc1 on Vista, Xtreme Makeover, Restful and Beeing Doomed to Present the Basics
Netbeans World Tour is over - at least for me. I spend the weekend in Poznan and Danzig - which was nice experience and great attendees. I had all freedom in Poznan, in Danzig however Jacek Laskowski, a polish Java Guru and a nice guy, decided to present the advanced EJB 3 stuff, so we splitted the stuff between us. It was too boring for me, so I presented a part of JavaONE 2008 Xtreme Gui Makeover, full RESTFul example and JSF, EJB 3, JPA basics. It was funny, because Jacek was in the audience and tried to interactively influence my talk (like forbidding the explanation of interceptors or DI because it was a part of his presentation). So thanks to all organizers and sponsors.
In Danzig, however, I got a small problem with Netbeans. Vista locked a jar again (common-upload.jar, the old Netbeans 6.1 problem) during the JSF part. I restarted Glassfish and the problem was solved. It was the first problem I encountered for about one week heavy usage of NB 6.5rc1. I build a small, fully functional, application "Danzig Song Management" with DRM protection of course :-), and tried to answer as many questions as possible.
"full RESTFul example and JSF"? You're not suggesting the two things can be combined, do you?

No - they were independent examples. I just wanted to explain the principle of REST and hacked the application afterwards :-).

It was great pleasure to listen you again, especially when you fit with RESTs after my presentation and save my a... ;-) Now I see that I must spend some extra time on that, but right now it will be much easer with NetBeans, JDK6 and with your presentation in mind ;-)
I'm looking forward to meet you again on some upcoming conference in Poland!

Not to be rude or anything, but it's Gdansk, not Danzig. You probably know that due to our eventful history, referring to Polish towns by their German names is somewhat of a faux pas. :-)

I am a Pole too and I would have never considered calling Gdansk "Danzig" a faux pas (and frankly, can't think of anyone that could). Jacek - not to be rude or anything - please don't suggest that all people in Poland share your linguistic obsessions.
By the way: how do you refer to Vilnus and Lviv? Are you careful not to use polish names for those cities as well? Or do you just say "Wilno" and "Lwów", like everyone else here in Poland?

I just named Gdansk "Danzig" because of the band. I used the polish name for Poznan . So I was not very consistent in the post.

I'm not a leader of Warszawa JUG, it's Jacek responsibility, I'm member of Management ;-)
Yes, it is very important for Poles, we, non-Warsaw residents, call it Warszafka :D

I don't get it you people. Adam is German so he uses German names. If you say Monachium (Munich) or Rzym, Cracow (Krakow) or Lwow it's not a big deal but if he uses German proper city naming it's a big deal. I don't get it, seriously people grow up because it is ridicules. BTW see ya next time in Gleiwitz ;)
