GlassFish will be Killed, Closed Source, Children's Edition And The Official Response

Oracle's official GlassFish roadmap (also clustering, HA and Java EE 7, GlassFish v4) summarized on 14 slides. The excellent Java EE 5/6 portability (vendor-neutrality) story and this slide deck should give GlassFish the next popularity/adoption boost.
[I borrowed the title from slide 4]

Comments:

The beginning of the title has very scared me.
Please don't do that again.

Adam,

Fishing for traffic? Sad.

I hate that fake title!

Adam just quoted some passages of the linked paper. If he was fishing for traffic, Oracle did so, too ;-)

@All,

I borrowed the title from slide 4: http://mediacast.sun.com/users/am74686/media/CommunityUpdate-25Mar2010.pdf

I like traffic -> this post was sponsored by: "No Fear" :-),

thanks!,

The fact, Oracle used WebLogic though with their Eclipse bundle for a workshop at EclipseCon after briefly talking about Glassfish and its OSGi capabilities in other sessions sounds similar.

For their Open Source Projects at Eclipse they still need it, but alongside VMWare there are new trends which almost sound like they can outdo Glassfish forever with Java EE7 (which was announced at EclipseCon, but I doubt the open process will have this pace, so it may be closed source, too ;-/)

this title is very very ambiguous...

and don't summarize the slides, damage

The part about Glassfish v4 and WebLogic sharing a 'best of breed' common server platform sounds interesting.

Please don't scare us like that again :-)

FUD = "Fear Uncertainty Doubt"

Please don't add to the FUD.

Posted by Eric B on April 13, 2010 at 12:17 AM CEST #

@EricB

my intention was actually to fight the FUD and encourage the readers to read the slides.

thanks for the hint!,

I would like to see similar information about future of Netbeans. I am worried about and what will happen with it's JEE support.

Link no longer goes to slides. Might be useful to quote the text, given that this is the first hit for a google search of "Glassfish popularity."
