Nebeans 6.5 On Vista with Nimbus in 10 Seconds - Looks Even Better

Netbeans is based on Swing, and Swing supports several Look and Feels. I already tried with Netbeans 6.0 or 6.1 to change the default Look and Feel to Nimbus - but it didn't worked in the past. With Netbeans 6.5 it is surprisingly easy to switch to Nimbus. You only have to provide the argument:--laf Nimbus. You can provide the parameter at start (e.g. netbeans.exe --laf Nimbus), or extend the [installation]/etc/netbeans.conf. There is a short tutorial available as well.

Netbeans looks really good with Nimbus running on Vista. Netbeans 6.5 with Nimbus is available with JDK 6 update 10+ running on Linux, OpenSolaris, Windows and Mac OS X. In the past I switched between Eclipse and Netbeans back and forth and enjoyed the different UI, behavior and art work. Now I can stay longer in Netbeans :-).

Can you show a screenshot? I'm using Nimbus L&F on OpenSolaris because everything in OpenSolaris uses it (not just Java). The only thing I don't really like is the tabs. Actually, I don't like the main toolbar either. I'm interested in seeing what it looks like on Windows. Hopefully exactly the same since we're talking about a Java L&F

I could send you a screenshot per Email - the problem is the bandwith. This blog has already about 4-7k visits a day - a screenshot would kill the server :-).
What's your experience with OpenSolaris? Do you installed it on your notebook?

I hoping for a screenshot and one isn't provided.

saying that having a screenshot will kill your bandwidth is a poor excuse. there are literally hundreds of free image hosting providers out there that you can offload the screenshot to.

1) There's a screenshot in the tutorial.

2) It takes less time to start NetBeans with Nimbus than to post a comment asking for a screenshot :)

I personally don't like the tabs at all. In NetBeans, the active tab is a very dark blue with black text (darker than it appears in the linked screenshot). IMHO, the borders between the tabs is too dark (since it's a double border). ...and that scroll bar...
